Gottlieb Guntern studied medicine in Switzerland (Basel, Bern, Geneva) and Paris. For twenty years he worked as a systems scientist, psychiatrist and systems therapist in Switzerland and the USA, including ten years as the medical director of a therapeutic center for in- and outpatients founded on his concepts and methods.
At the age of 50 he changed tracks and entered the domain of Creativity & Leadership research. For fifteen years he worked as a special advisor for boards and top-managements of multinational corporations to develop creative leadership in top-level teams.
Together with his wife, visual artist Greta Guntern-Gallati, he founded CREANDO — International Foundation for Creativity & Leadership in 1979. Over a period of twenty years they organized international symposia on Creativity & Leadership with internationally renowned creative leaders from various disciplines, many of whom were Nobel laureates in Literature, Science and Economics.
Guntern is the author of twenty topic books, some of which were translated into other languages. In 2012 UPA, University Press of America, published his major work in the field of creativity: THE SPIRIT OF CREATIVITY — Basic Mechanisms of Creative Achievements. The following year University Press of America published IN THE SIGN OF THE BUTTERFLY, a work whose original German version (IM ZEICHEN DES SCHMETTERLINGS) was the No. 1 topic books bestseller in Switzerland in 1993.
